WarnerMedia Entertainment and New Cadence Productions Bring the HA Festival Celebrating The Art of Comedy to San Antonio

The HA Festival Celebrating The Art of Comedy comes to San Antonio February 21-23, 2020!  A variety of live shows, culminating with a “Best of the Fest” TV special, hosted by Anjelah Johnson, will be held in iconic venues in the scenic Riverwalk area of San Antonio.

Among the new additions are celebrated actress and native Texan Eva Longoria, of Desperate Housewives fame. Eva has pre-taped a special appearance that will celebrate comedic actress Lupe Ontiveros.  Her segment will be added to the TV taping of the show on Sunday, February 23rd.

Also added to the TV taping lineup is actor/entrepreneur Danny Trejo, also known as Machete from the Spy Kids movies. Danny, along with comedic actress Izabella Alvarez, star of Nickelodeon’s Casagrandes series, have both pre-taped the cold opening of the show that producers promise will be funny with a twist of magical realism

Emilio Rivera, best known as Marcus Alvarez of the hit TV show Mayans M.C., to host the Fresh Faces of Comedy show at the Empire Theatre on Friday, February 21st, at 7 pm.

“We’re thrilled to present a new mainstream comedy festival featuring an incredible lineup of Latinx talent that connects us all and proves that funny is funny,” said Jeff Valdez, founder of the original festival which helped break the careers of then-unknown comedian Gabriel Iglesias, a.k.a. Fluffy, and many others.  “The new generation of comics is focused on life experiences.”

Opening night, Friday, February 21, a kick-off party at The St. Anthony Hotel is followed by a film premiere of Witness Infection, a comedy spoof of zombie movies produced by Carlos Alazraqui and Jill-Michele Meleán and starring Rob Belushi. The early show at the Empire Theater features 10 Fresh Faces of Comedy selected from a nationwide search.

Comedy Chingonas features national headliners Aida Rodriguez,Gina Brillon, Jill-Michele Meleán, Monique Marvez, Debi Gutierrez, Carmen Lynch, Shayla Rivera and Vanessa Gonzalez, hosted by trans model/actress Carmen Carrera from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

“Championing new voices is a part of our fabric,” said Kevin Reilly, Chief Content Officer, HBO Max, and President, TNT, TBS & truTV.
